Daily Guitar Lesson System by Kirk Malay - A unique routine for guitar efficiency.

"The Mode of the Day" & "The Key of the Month" practice system, featured in the Daily Guitar Lessons section of this web site, was original created by Kirk Malay in 1996 for the guitar education software title: The Daily Guitar Lesson V1.0.  This software title made it debut appearance by being a featured product for the Rock & Roll Society booth at the 1997 National Association of Music Merchants (N.A.M.M.) trade show in California. Since then the daily guitar lessons routine has become a increasingly popular and vital part of this web site.

    The systems works as follows...

7 days a week (The Seven Church Modes)

• Monday = Ionian Mode Day (1st. degree pure major scale)
• Tuesday = Dorian Mode Day (2nd. degree minor scale)
• Wednesday = Phrygian Mode Day (3rd. degree minor scale)
• Thursday = Lydian Mode Day (4th. degree major scale)
• Friday = Mixolydian Mode Day (5th. degree major scale)
• Saturday = Aeolian Mode Day (6th. degree pure minor scale)
• Sunday = Locrian Mode Day (7th. degree minor/diminished scale)

12 months a year (The Twelve Keys of the Circle of Fifths)

• January = Key month of C Major (or A minor)
• February = Key month of G Major (or E minor)
• March = Key month of D Major (or B minor)
• April = Key month of A Major (or F# minor)
• May = Key month of E Major (or C# minor)
• June = Key month of B Major (or G# minor)
• July = Key month of Gb Major (or F# minor)
• August = Key month of Db Major (or Bb minor)
• September = Key month of Ab Major (or F minor)
• October = Key month of Eb Major (or C minor)
• November = Key month of Bb Major (or G minor)
• December = Key month of F Major (or D minor)
