hey. I have been playing guitar for about 4 years and have just been introduced to modes (aeolian,locrian,dorian,ect) I am pretty familliar with them all, I just have trouble figuring how to tell which mode a song is in. thanks for any advice anyone can provide

yeah, get a lower guaged string set. around 60 to 62 works best, have a guitar shop file out your nut to fit the new strings. It works best if you have one guitar in drop c, and one in standard tuning. because of the lower strings, putting it into drop c puts just about the same amount of tention on the neck as standard tuning strings, so dont worry about your neck. as far as finding strings, GHS makes a zakk wylde set that works pretty good. or you can do what i did and just buy 7 string guitar strings, and take out the highest string.
