Strat Tremolo

From: Scott - how many springs for strat tremolo

Comments

I put heavier strings on my strat. The tremolo springs are not strong enough to offset the heavier strings. Is there a formula for string gauge vs number of springs or spring strength?

help broken amp - beginner (ish)

From: krazy kat (girlie)

Comments

hi there guys n girlz. i think i have blown up my amp and wondered if anyone knew what could be broken as i want to try to fix it cheap without gettin ripped off. I am a beginner at electric guitar but can play a bit on acoustic. bought a 15 w practise amp but got carried away with hendrix style feedback ! it started making crunchy noises like a plastic bag was in it and wasnt as loud and now it doesnt amplify at all. when you take the lead out theres not even nay hum or static. it buzzed a bit when i bought it sometimes but now i am unplugged!! can anyone help??? please...would be very grateful as i now cant practise except on acoustic. ive only had it three weeks. bought it off ebay and am very fed up but it might be my fault that its broken!> :-( all suggestions gratefully received and no i didnt turn it up to 11!!! thanks peeps flat_in_the_country@yahoo.co.uk

Fingering chords

From: racerman

Comments

I picked up the guitar (acoustic) again last year after not having plated one in almost 25 years. It's taken a while but things are finally starting to fall into place again. However, I have run into an unexpected problem. I have found that I have a hard time making the fingers on my fretting hand stretch enough to play some of the chords. I know part of it is just that I'm not as young as I once was, but I'm wondering if anyone can suggest any kind of stretching exercises that I could practice that might help to loosen up, as well as strengthen my fingers. mcameron@netzero.com

hey dude. i just attempted re-stringing my guitar. I found it really hard/annoying and time consuimng. At least, the way I did it. It seems very wrong, but i could not hink of another way. I firstly took off all strings, and undid the springs from the back of the guitar. I then put on a net set of strings, and tightened each one enopugh, so that when i put the srpings back on, they wouldnt snap. I then tuned each string seperatley, so that the tension was spread evenbly across the whole of the strings. eventualy i could tune the strings, but the tremolo seemed to be very very high indeed. Im now just leaving it, to allow the tension in the strings to be relaxed, and drop the tremolo a bit. Hope that helps, but, if anyone else finds out the right way, please tell.

My son is 12 and started playing las year on my old Yamaha Acoustic. For Christmas he has his eye on a Peavey (?) EVH Wolfgang van-halen electric. For the same price, he could have an entry level Gibson or Fender. Am I gonna get my money's worth for the Wolfgang?
