Got three great suggestions: 1. Buy Bill Edwards "Fretboard Logic" series, two books and DVD. On the Internet search Bill Edwards Publishing or 2. any Easy Guitar text. I took voice lessons for 14 years. Cannot read music, but play by ear. If you can carry a tune, you can play guitar! Or if you cannot carry a tune, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, etc., you can still play!
3. Buy a decent beginner guitar. Alvarez makes a great beginner in their Artist, Professional or Masterworks series. Each is a step up to include laminated woods as opposed to solid woods. Play alot of guitars after you learn a few chords. You will pay for the name if you buy a Gibson, Martin, Taylor. etc. Alvarez, Breedlove "Atlas Series", Seagull, to name a few acoustics.
