you can form the F cord many many different ways. basically the cord is made from the triad of the root, the third and the fifth note from the major scale. in the case of the F cord this is F A C ( the scale being F G A Bb C D E). Any way you can finger these notes on the fret board gives a F cord. If the root is in the base note (as it is in the F A C form) this is the standard voicing for the cord. You can get other voicing by placing either the 3rd (A) or the fifth (C) in the base. These are known as inversions of the cord. The key to unlocking cords is to learn a little theory. It will help you and make it so that you can find any cord any time with out a book or the web! Good luck and enjoy your guitar!
