Ben, Maybe the style you are playing is too advanced. If you are having trouble keeping tempo, that tells me that you have a poor foundation. Go back a few lessons and build a foundation of chords, scales, and tempo. Then look for styles that incorporate those things. Even if you don't like the music you have to learn, you will see how easily it translates to other styles.
