Repainting a guitar

i am looking to repaint a guitar and i was wondering if anyone had advice on what kind of paint would be best. if spary paint would do or if i sould try to use an airbrush. also how far i sould sand the guitar down to the bare wood or if it would be better to leave the primier on. how many coats of paint and how many coats of clear coat. what grit sandpaper. pretty how to go about doing it. Sorry this is my first time to do anything like this.

Thank you so much. We went the electric and now acoustic route with my son already. This is for my daughter and she is really focused on an acoustic. I have been doing some research also on this whole length thing. And I believe you have uncovered the initial mystery of why I was seeing conflicting lengths for these varying between 34" and 36". It is probably the type of strings. This then makes sense if the steel strings are a bit harder to press down on, it would make sense that the neck would be smaller for a student guitar.
