Re: Fat Fingers

im a big guy, about 6'2" and i have been playing a Les Paul Custom for about 15-20 years, and i too have "fat fingers", not because im fat but because i use my hands a most men do for work---im a carpenter/pc custom builder (hell of a mix huh? pays the bills) anyway i got around my 'fat fingers' by 1. relaxing them and using the tips to make tighter chords like A and B, but i also use sus7/9 chords in place of "natural" chords which helps and only varies the tone slightly when played live.......for example, instead of playing the standard C chord (C major), i use C#sus9 (kinda like the G major just drop your first finger from the B position on the A string to the E postion on the D string, and the second finger from the G on the E string to the C on the A string and add the third finger to the D position on the B string. finding augmented and variant chords will help alot. if all else fails play "half chords" for example sucha as the A major chord, drop the 3 finger on the E position on the B string which makes the chord Aadd9/Esus. you will be surprised how easy these variants are and it makes you look and sound like a better player by "cheating"! good luck, any other questions feel free to email me at lordvampire@yahoo.com
