Both Pearl Jam and Alice in Chain have many different kinds of guitar amps, effects and guitars. Marshal Amps seem to be a favorite for the deep grunge sound as well as just about any heavy metal. Get the most expensive guitar amplifier you can for your budget. If your going for the cheap versions of the models of Strat or Les Paul and you can find a used Fender american strat for a good price grab it, otherwise it is best to take the epiphone over a japanese fender any day. This is just my personal opinion, it is best to go to the music store and try em out to see which one fits you and sounds best to you and only you, and realize that as you get better you'll want to get better equipment, so don't get too attached to these and don't worry too much about your decisions because you're just going to buy something better in the next year or two anyway.
