Re: practice time

From: Guitar: Virutal Practice & Resting Time

Comments

Actually. taking time off the guitar is a good thing. Try this: After practicing really well for a few weeks straigt and many hours per day, try taking a few days off! You should be amazed when you jump back on the guitar. Your fingers will be more limber and more accurate. Your playing the day you come back will be better than if you practiced all day the day before. You see, if you are a practicing guitarist and have practiced continually for months or years and you take a break, your brain will continue to work on it, even if your not giving it much thought. Another thing that happens is that when you miss some days you become anxious and your brain produces chemicals that are benifitial to your learning, then when you get back on the guitar those charged up brain cells release themselves like a bull running. It can be very fun once you get the hang of it. This is especially a good idea for a guitar player that are writting music and is having a hard time coming up with something new. Take a few days off and all of a sudden things just come together. Another good thing to know is that you can practice your guitar mentally, if you can visuallize it, then your brain won't know the difference. YOU WILL LEARN, perhaps even faster then if you had the guitar in your hand. While waiting in traffic or in line at the store, just close your eyes for a second and play some scales in your mind. Notice that when you do it in your mind that you don't make as many mistakes! Good stuff!
