You can master an instrument in about 1 year, providing you learn, or are taught, the
basic music theory formulas, be able to shift them into another key and you've practiced
enough to able to physically play it live. Once you've mastered one instrument you
can master any instrument even faster and with the right knowledge of formulas, you will
be able to master a new instrument, in about a month. Yep 1 month! You see, once you
understand basic music theory you can apply it to any instrument almost instantly. But
remember, to know and not to do, is not enough, you must be able to play it live.
To know if you have mastered an instrument, you must know the basic theory formulas, be
able to shift them into any key, be able to play them on the instrument and know how to
play and manipulate these formulas live. There is only a hand full of basic formulas,
understand these and a whole world opens up to you. You will know that you have mastered
an instrument, when you can improvise live, stay in time and in key (unless changing keys
deliberately). At this point you will also realize, that you know way more, than you'll
ever have time to play.
