I would practice each chords up the neck based with the root on each of the six strings. For example; play the E major chord with the root on the low E string (open chord), then pay it up the neck with the root on the D string, (at the 2nd fret). Then play the e chord a little bit more up the fretboard with the root on the B string, then up a bit further with the root on the A string then with the root on the G string then up a bit more with the root on the high e string (12th. fret.) Try this with other chords like A, D, G & B. Then practice the minor triad chords the same way. Also try 7th and other chords.
