I'm not very versed on a bunch of chords so I just use sliding chords like an open E
chord and move it up and down the neck using my index finger to act as the nut of the
guitar neck and as the root of whatever chord I want.
To play an G Major chord just play an open E major chord at the 3rd. fret and place
your index finger across all the strings at the 2nd fret. To play a C major chord put your
index finger on the 8th fret etc.... This also works well with minor chords.

Some people call this a sliding chord cause you just slide this fingering to whatever
note you want. It also works on the A string using the open A chord fingerings.
